Nightrain

Here’s my setlist from Nightrain. Be assured it is only a temporary deviation from the norm for me, not a sudden change in direction, but I did enjoy it, I do like ALL these songs and I would do it a few more times if the chance came up.

8:30pm-9:15pm – Album-Oriented Rock

X-KiN & Non-Bio Music Video launch night

This night at the Elixir Bar was organised to launch two music videos by the bands X-KiN and Non-Bio. A third video by the band Eycromon was added to the billing later on. There were also several DJs, and some time between 11:45pm and 12:45 am, I played the following tunes.

Neo-Noir – September 2012

A return to Neo-Noir’s original venue, and a midnight set from me. Due to requests prior to the night and various ‘Ibiza Floor’ discussions during the previous week, I decided to focus (for the first half at least) on 90s dance crossover classics. The second half of the set focused on more scene-focused output, including (amazingly!) my first airing of a track from VNV Nation’s seminal ‘Empires’ album.

Alternative Bring’n’Buy Sale – August 2012

My longest day of DJing, ever. Two events, one after the other, on two floors of the same venue.

10:30am- 12 noon – Early Morning Synthesiser

An intentional change from the usual ‘damnbient’ music policy that opens up this event. It was simply too hot. One tradition, opening-with-an-incredibly-long-track-during-setup-time, was retained.

The Orb – A Huge Ever-Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld
The Knife – She’s Having A Baby
The Weathermen – Punishment Park

2pm-3pm – Not Cooling Off Yet

From hard bleepy stuff to borderline goth……

Y34R Z3R0 July 2012

Setlists from my two sets at Y34R Z3R0 – a Nine Inch Nails-based club night.

9pm-10pm – The Ambience

Not wanted to play the floorfillers early on, I elected to focus the first set on the more minimal Reznor output, before introducing some dance beats towards the end.

NIN – Sin
Front 242 – Headhunter (Live Moments version)

Ministry – Revenge
NIN – Kinda I Want To (Purest Feeling version)

Voodoo Summer Ball

Despite being the same location as my last set, and support slot for Die Kur (a band I’ve support DJed for several times), this was quite some distance from my usual kind of night. Anyway, whilst it’s by no means representative of the event as a whole, here’s my brief contribution to the nights proceedings.

Cradle of Filth – Cthulu Dawn
Tiamat – The Ar
Anathema – Empty
Theatre of Tragedy – Machine
Ministry – Jesus Built My Hot Rod
Coal Chamber – Sway
Slipknot – Wait and Bleed
Fear Factory – Edgecrusher
System of a Down – Suite Pee

System:FX + Support

Fellow East London outfit System:FX headlined a 4-band billing at Elektrowerkz tonight, which also saw the debut of a new-look Machine Rox with live drums and guitars. In addition, it was my first ever laptop DJ set (barring a brief test session last year). Despite a couple of flaws, the kit essentially held together long enough for me to play the following tunes, before each band and then a few songs to fill in before Slimelight kicked in.

Kirlian Camera – Nightglory
Scapa Flow – Crucial Impact
Void Kampf – Rock The Club (R)
Fixmer/McCarthy – Splitter (B)
Mindless Faith – Momentum

<System:FX>

Wendy Carlos – Theme From A Clockwork Orange (Beethoviana)
Vangelis – Blade Runner (End Titles)
Coil – The Anal Staircase

Die Kur + Support

This DJ set was something of a curveball. I might have DJed for Die Kur several times before, but the other bands weren’t only new to me, but quite some distance stylistically from my ‘usual style’. But this was just an opportunity to dig out some tunes that I don’t normally get to play.

Rolling Stones – Sympathy For The Devil
Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath
Led Zeppelin – Black Dog
The Beatles – Helter Skelter
Lou Reed – Vicious
Iggy Pop – Lust For Life
Ian Dury – Spasticus Autisticus
