Black Celebration August 2010

As very much a last-minute thing (so last minute I didn’t get much chance to advertise the fact I was playing beyond a rush of Facebook invites!), I DJed the Black Celebration night at the Elixir Bar. As it’s a Depeche Mode themed night, you might notice a certain band from Basildon occuring quite frequently in the setlist.

9:15pm to 10:30pm – Early Mode, European New Wave, Old EBM

I wanted a concept to base my first set round, so decided to play some of the earliest Mode tracks alongside a number of other bands who also helped shape the sound of electronic pop in the early 80s.

Depeche Mode – Oberkorn (It’s A Small Town)
Pyrolator – Nordatlantik
Malaria – Kaltes Klares Wasser
Depeche Mode – Puppets
Fad Gadget – Ladyshave
Depeche Mode – Ice Machine
Absolute Body Control – Do You Feel It Inside (Re[Wind] version)
Telex – Rock Around The Clock
Depeche Mode – Get The Balance Right
Opera Multi Steel – Ils S’eloigent
Martin Dupont – Just Because
Depeche Mode – Work Hard
Cabaret Voltaire – I Want You
Depeche Mode – People Are People
Front 242 – Body To Body
DAF – Der Mussolini
Depeche Mode – Photographic (Some Bizarre Version)
Nitzer Ebb – Join In The Chant
Orange Sector – Dynamit
Depeche Mode – Master And Servant

12:05 – 1:05 – 80s Anthems With Metal For Dessert

After a midnight airing of ‘Pimpf’, I decided to do a DM heavy pure 80s set. Well, until I got some very enthusisatic requests for metal towards the end and prompty did a quick direction change. If you plan to play a set of crowd-pleasers, you gotta please the crowd!

New Order – True Faith
Depeche Mode – Everything Counts (Live 101)
Ultravox – Hymn
Depeche Mode – Precious
Tears For Fears – Mad World
Soft Cell – Tainted Love
Depeche Mode – Just Can’t Get Enough
Yazoo – Don’t Go
Dead Or Alive – You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)
Depeche Mode – Never Let Me Down
Depeche Mode – Sea Of Sin (Tonal Mix)
Rammstein – Engel
Type O Negative – Black No.1
Depeche Mode – Blasphemous Rumours
