Fellow East London outfit System:FX headlined a 4-band billing at Elektrowerkz tonight, which also saw the debut of a new-look Machine Rox with live drums and guitars. In addition, it was my first ever laptop DJ set (barring a brief test session last year). Despite a couple of flaws, the kit essentially held together long enough for me to play the following tunes, before each band and then a few songs to fill in before Slimelight kicked in.

This DJ set was something of a curveball. I might have DJed for Die Kur several times before, but the other bands weren’t only new to me, but quite some distance stylistically from my ‘usual style’. But this was just an opportunity to dig out some tunes that I don’t normally get to play.

Time to return to the Camden Underworld for the latest Sychrotrax all-dayer, Dark 7, headlined by Deviant UK. Opening band K-Nitrate had to pull out, with Paresis arriving at short notice to open up. Another legendary venue DJed, the London metal pub, ‘The Intrepid Fox’ to do support slots for event organisers ‘Die Kur’ (3rd time) and ‘MaxDmyz’ (5th time!). Joining me today was Alan Hicks of Rock Matrix, who supported the other two bands.

My second time DJing for Global Citizen and Die Kur, and my 4th (!!!) for MaxDmyz. This particular set called upon extreme corners of my collection, and with a few requests thrown in too, I really hope that this dispels any myth that I’m just an industrial DJ!

The follow-up to Dark 7 – book seven UK bands and host an afternoon and evening of live music in the Camden Underworld. Despite putting the first band on stage a mere 10 minutes after opening the doors, they managed to pull a great crowd and the venue stayed busy for the duration. Dark 7 was an event organised by the members of the band Machine Rox. The concept was to book a number of UK scene bands (the only overseas act, Terror Error, withdrew before the event) and hold a one day mini-festival in the Camden Underworld.

System:FX were called into headline, although the first four bands on the bill were completely new to me. A scan through various online profiles and chance to watch soundcheck gave me a chance of devising a vaguely relevant set before each band came on, and despite an occasionally sticking ‘Play’ button, it seemed to go quite well. So here’s what was played.
